Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to grand unification in non-supersymmetric theories. We discuss charge quantization, grand unification of the gauge couplings and nucleon decay. The unification groups SU(5) and SO(10) are considered. We start however by first considering the Pati-Salam group, SU(4) C SU(2) L SU(2) R .

    See problem 4.

  2. 2.

    See problem 5.

  3. 3.

Large threshold corrections at the GUT scale due to large representations of the GUT symmetry breaking sector of the theory can in principle save the GUT prediction for gauge coupling unification of non-supersymmetric theories [48].
