Abstract
Supersymmetric theories were invoked to solve the gauge hierarchy problem, i.e. to explain why the weak scale is so much smaller than the Planck or GUT scales. It does this by extending the chiral symmetry of fermions to their bosonic superpartners. Without supersymmetry one must fine-tune the Higgs mass squared by one part in 1028. But the question in the literature is how much fine-tuning is acceptable. The answer to this question is clearly subjective. Is one part in 100 too much or is one part in 1000 acceptable? Either way, the fine-tuning to 1 part in 1028 is avoided.
