Abstract
In this chapter, Scillio explores three cases of people working in large organisations. Neil is an IT specialist in a big bank and has finally found the right place to work. His role promises future professional and self-development. His case illustrates how a fit between a person’s values and the organisational culture can provide a sense of belonging. Two short cases follow, which draw out the themes of organisations as places of learning through relationships with others. Finally, the chapter notes how organisations can provide a sense of place and possible pathways in the future, how these are forms of grounding and how these can shape career stories.
