Abstract
There are many good reasons to make an excursion to the Hengill Volcano (Fig. 12.1). It is an active volcano —indeed the centre of the Hengill Volcanic System (Figs. 2.2 and 2.3) to which the Thingvellir Graben belongs—whose most recent eruption was only 2000 years ago. It has many active geothermal fields and a geothermal power plant. But the main reason to visit Hengill is its unique and, depending on your taste, beautiful landscape.
