Abstract
The purposes of education, learning and pedagogy in human societies are varied. Some societies may have systems of education which do not necessarily concern themselves with learning, pedagogy or human futurity. This provides a context to discuss whether competence-based education and training (CBET) is congruent with learning and pedagogy and what are the implications of this. The chapter considers the structure of the book as a whole.
