Abstract
In this chapter, the author describes how minority stress influences the lives of LGBT people of color, particularly how these influences shape the patient-provider interaction. In doing so, there is an emphasis on theoretical frameworks healthcare providers may use to frame their work with LGBT people of color, such as the structural competency, multicultural, social justice, and resilience theories. Recommendations for applying these theories to work with LGBT people of color patients are provided.
