Abstract

Numerous staging systems have been developed to predict the prognosis of thyroid cancer. Historically these have focused primarily on mortality as the predicted outcome. The key prognostic variables include patient age, tumor size, presence of lymph node or distant metastases, invasive behavior of the tumor, and grade or histology of the tumor. In this chapter, each of these variables is discussed in depth. In addition all of the major staging systems are reviewed including MACIS, TNM, and many others.
