Abstract

The breasts start significant development during puberty because of hormonal metabolic alterations. The size and shape of the breasts may change in a very short period of time, which affects the body contours. Usually, when a patient decides to undergo mastoplasty, she may present breast asymmetry, hypertrophy, hypoplasia, deformities secondary to obesity or massive weight loss or other imperfections. Although she has already made the decision, the plastic surgeon must perform an accurate physical examination to identify all the correlated problems. Afterward, surgical planning is a necessary step with the patient in a standing position to evaluate the breasts and other abnormalities. Once the operation is scheduled, I prefer to carry out pre-marking 1 day before surgery and surgical marking is performed with the patient in the operating room.
