Abstract

Introduction: Breast hypertrophy is a common cause of physical and emotional suffering for many women. Costa Lima’s technique seeks to address this abnormality and facilitate the elevation of the nipple–areola complex (NAC). Method: This technique uses the dual Pitanguy technique to make skin incisions for amputation of the mammary base, withdrawing a segment as a solid tetrahedron or triangular upper pole pyramid, below the areola, to determine one thin areolar dermoglandular flap, which is mobilized cranially, facilitating the migration of the NAC. Discussion: In comparison with other techniques for treating the severe hypertrophy, this proved very easy for the migration of the NAC and definition of the upper pole of the breast, with a fast learning curve. Complications are the same as for similar techniques. It may, at the beginning of learning, lead to increased NAP ischemia of varying degrees. Conclusion: Overall, the technique was effective, especially in hypertrophy with severe ptosis.
