Abstract
Measuring for improvement is a cornerstone of successful improvement. This chapter first describes the different types of measures, sources of data, and how to operationally define data to ensure consistent, accurate data collection. In the second part of the chapter, how to learn from the measures using visual displays is explained: how to plot data over time in run charts and Shewhart charts and how to use Pareto charts, frequency plots, and scatterplots.
