Abstract

This book attempts, perhaps for the first time, to examine, in detail, the experience of post-colonial territories and their attempts to manage ethnic communities within their countries. The book will focus on Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Suriname in the Caribbean as well as Fiji. It will look at the mechanisms, which vary from legislation to political structures, systems and institutions that have been introduced to allow for greater integration by these communities. It will also assess, if possible, the strengths or weaknesses of these mechanisms.
