Abstract
The characteristics of Holistic School Leadership, discussed in this chapter, are the practical ways in which school principals lead schools through the framework of systems thinking. Our research uncovered four major characteristics: (1) Leading wholes—a holistic point of view oriented toward seeing the big picture and not only its separate parts. (2) Adopting a multidimensional view—seeing several aspects of a given issue simultaneously. (3) Influencing indirectly—addressing the school’s tasks and challenges circuitously, while identifying leverage points. (4) Evaluating significance—considering elements of school life according to their significance for the entire system.
