Abstract

Leadership can sometimes be an elusive concept. With the added complexities of being a female in a male-dominated industry in a leadership role, women can enhance their impact if they are aware of some of the less tangible assets. This chapter aims to be a thought-provoking practical guide to exploring characteristics, skills, and behaviours that work well for women as leaders on bush adventure therapy programmes. Case studies, stories, and reflections are used to highlight the strength of these assets and invoke consideration of when things can be done differently for outcomes that are more positive. Some discussions can and will apply to both genders; however, this is a subjective piece written from a woman’s perspective about women and leadership in the field of bush adventure therapy.
