Pitfalls in Musculoskeletal Radiology

Abstract

The ability to dynamically visualize superficial soft tissue structures, combined with high-resolution imaging, makes ultrasound (US) an excellent modality for the assessment of the knee joint. The quality of diagnostic US imaging, however, depends much on operator expertise. Being aware of the pitfalls and variants associated with US imaging is essential to prevent the misdiagnosis and mismanagement of patients. This chapter outlines the common variants and crucial pitfalls of US imaging of the knee joint.
