Abstract

The ability to visualize superficial soft tissue structures dynamically combined with high-resolution imaging makes ultrasound an excellent modality for assessment of the hip joint. However, the quality of diagnostic ultrasound imaging is highly dependent on operator expertise. As such, an awareness of the pitfalls and variants is essential to prevent the misdiagnosis and mismanagement of patients. This chapter outlines the common variants and crucial pitfalls of ultrasound imaging of the hip joint.
