Abstract

The concluding chapter of the book summarizes the key arguments made in the previous chapters. It systematically describes the factors leading to the emergence of each of the six types of regional organizations discussed in the book (in particular, the role of historical factors, power asymmetry, economic development and crises, and political regimes of the member states in this matter). It also highlights the major observations from the empirical research (in particular, the surprising persistence of regional organizations once they have been established).
