Abstract

The discovery, 30 years ago, of superconductivity at 35 K in the Ba-La-Cu-O system has stimulated a huge number of studies. From the analysis of the numerous data, it is shown that the ability of barium to generate the highest Tc’s originates, besides its size, from its particular “oxygenation capacity” which influences dramatically the copper mixed valence.

Dedicated to Professor K.A. Müller on the Occasion of his 90th Birthday.
