Abstract

Phalangeal dislocations are treated differently based on type and location of the injury. They are often able to be treated nonoperatively unless they are unstable or irreducible. There may be associated ligament or tendon injury or interposition which must be recognized on physical exam and radiographic imaging. The reduction techniques vary based on location and direction of the dislocation. Postreduction care typically involves a brief period of immobilization. Early range of motion is essential in preventing stiffness.
