The Textbook of Clinical Sexual Medicine

Abstract

This chapter covers most life-threatening emergencies that are a result of sexual activity. Most, if not all, will usually present to the Emergency Department first. For each of the sexual emergencies listed in this chapter, there is a review of the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of each type of emergency. These sexual emergencies are discussed in the order of those pertaining to men, those pertaining to women, and those pertaining to both men and women. While they are life-threatening, most of these emergencies, if treated appropriately and in a timely fashion, will allow for a good prognosis and continued quality sexual activity.
