Abstract

Lateral compression pelvic fractures are described by the Young and Burgess system. If the patient is going to the operating room with general surgery for other injuries or possible diversion for an open rectal injury, this should be communicated to the attending orthopedic surgery as preperitoneal packing or external fixation may be necessary.
