Abstract
Uterine fibroids constitute the most common pelvic tumors in women; it is also the most frequent cause of hysterectomy in the whole world. It is much more common in African American women compared to Caucasian women. Usually, patients are asymptomatic, and these tumors are not diagnosed or just surgical findings, but some patients are clearly symptomatic; clinical manifestations may vary; the most common symptoms are heavier menstrual bleeding and pain. These benign tumors may cause infertility and obstetric complications. This chapter analyzes epidemiology, risk factors, treatment, and effect on fertility of this common disease.
