Abstract
There are many causes of chronic kidney disease. The end stage renal disease (ESRD) severely affects quality of life especially during the time patients need to go into dialyses. When young patients are affected by renal disease, their fertility is impaired because of physiologic changes, and usually fertility is recovered after kidney transplantation. This chapter reviews different causes of kidney failure, physiology and physiopathology of the kidney, risk factors, diagnosis techniques, and different kinds of treatments giving special importance to this section taking in account that some of these treatments have an important role on the impaired fertility that affects these patients.
