Notes

  1. 1.

My fieldwork took place in years 2012–2014. This is when I conducted most of the interviews and talked with various people engaged in the discussion on the city’s future; attended official and informal meetings; and, last but not least, participated in sports events. However, also after the end of this work, I was determined to listen to those locals who would usually say that “they are not interested in politics”, so I kept on having endless conversations in shops, cafés and during family meetings. The stories written in the book are told by people I talked to during my research. I thank all of them for their time, patience and dinners they cooked for me when I was writing up my dissertation.
