Abstract
This chapter reviews the changes, principles, models, as well as the areas of governance. The chapter also discusses the stages of the application of governance in the academic institutions with some bearing on the role of students in governance-based universities. Al-Haddad and Yasin pinpoint that it is essential to develop governance in the Arab universities so as to ensure transparency, accountability, and institutional participation of all parties. To accomplish this, the researchers assure the necessity to make academic decisions that follow scientific criteria in the councils of the university. ‘Governance Reform in Higher Education Institutions in the Arab World’ recommends that the Arab Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research have to adopt a governance-based reform that enables the universities to carry out the reform of the administrative system.
