Abstract

Robotic distal pancreatectomy is a natural evolution of minimally invasive approaches now increasingly used for the most complex oncologic abdominal operations. In this chapter, we review our standardized operative approach to a robotic distal pancreatectomy. We also review outcome data published to date, verifying the procedure’s safety and feasibility. We also discuss the learning curve data for the robotic approach and compare the outcomes of robotic, laparoscopic, and open distal pancreatic resections. Although no randomized trials exist comparing these approaches, the current data suggest noninferiority with respect to pancreatic cancer outcomes, but and in some instances superiority of the robotic distal pancreatectomy to the other approaches for benign disease
