Abstract
In this chapter we overview, in sequence the structure and key arguments of the volume, which consists of 18 chapters that are divided into four parts. We detail the focus of each of the four sections and the arguments raised in the respective chapters in each section in sequence below. The first part Poverty , social inequalities , and marginalization starts with a theoretical chapter about marginalization followed by case studies from Kyrgyzstan, Darjeeling, Bhutan and Uttarakhand. The second part is devoted to different cases of marginality processes in this way or another connected with indigenous communities , identity, livelihood practices and biodiversity. Case studies that are presented are from Israel (2), from Bhutan (2), from Uttarakhand (2) and Arunachal Pradesh. The third part deals with migration , depopulation and environmental fragility presenting examples from Finland on one side and Uttarakhand from India on the other. The last two chapters, which constitute the final part of the book consists of case studies from the mountainous regions of Switzerland and Garhwal Himalaya and deal with strategies and policies to overcome the threats of marginalization.
