Abstract

In daily life and childhood in working-class neighborhoods—where anti-Fascist and Fascist families often lived side by side and shared hardships—working conditions worsened, the cost of living rose, many were radicalized, and resisted with sabotage, walkouts, and demonstrations. Communists and Socialists organized underground and maintained an anti-Fascist culture alive in neighborhoods and workplaces, in spite of repression and discrimination. The Communist Party retained a skeleton organization and some influence; according to the Fascist political police, the majority of Terni’s workers never sympathized with Fascism.
