Abstract

Traffic lights costs 0.5% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the city due to heavy traffic, so multiple actions are being carried out to reduce this indicator and mitigate its effects. However, although Bogotá currently has around 1.400 signalized intersections, the importance of traffic lights in mobility is still vital. Besides technological change, city policies, preventive and corrective maintenance of traffic lights, this paper presents a study of power quality and harmonics analysis in traffic lights focused on the quality of the devices used, not from phenomena coming from the electrical network. Full LED lights, turn arrows, pedestrian and green halogen lights are tested over a special module to measure harmonic distortion and power factor before recommending THD levels for them.
