Abstract

Reconstruction of the auricle due to congenital anomalies is a matter of surgical planning and performing a satisfactory operation. The new auricular framework is excavated from the rib cartilage according to previous preparation. The operation is performed only on patients age 6 and older, since until that age the rib cartilage is quite thin. The reconstruction is done in two stages, and the second one can be done 6 months after the first. The post-operative care is so important after both stages that if the patient is not able to follow the surgeon’s schedule for post-op care, it is better not to perform the operation. The surgical results depend on both the operation performed by the surgeon and the patient’s following the post-operative care for 2–3 months.
