Abstract

This chapter introduces and outlines the thematic, methodological, and theoretical scope of this infrastructural history of the late-Georgian satirical print trade. It appraises the historiography of satirical printing in late-Georgian England. It justifies the use of Isaac Cruikshank’s satirical output as a point of focus for the volume. It argues that production, sale, and environment are crucial to understanding late-Georgian satirical prints and makes the case for a business-, profit-, and production-led approach to reading the role, function, and impact of satirical prints in late-Georgian society.
