Abstract
The article presents basic functionalities of a navigational decision support system used in collision situations, illustrated with example performance of the NAVDEC system. Other similar systems have been characterized. The authors draw attention to the need to introduce legal regulations for the construction and operation of navigational decision support systems. The authors also attempt to outline directions of their development in the years to come in view of expected increase in number of unmanned and autonomous ships.
