Abstract

Carapace subquadrate, broad, mostly much broader than long, dorsal surface usually flat, slightly convex, regions nearly well defined, lateral margins usually running parallel posteriorly, with one or more teeth. Front in various breadth, very narrow to relatively broad. Antennules folded transversely, more or less obliquely. Antennae with long flagellum. Orbits broad, eyestalks markedly long, sometimes extending exorbital angle. Third maxillipeds with gap between, but not rhomboidal, mandibles no visible when maxillipeds closed. Chelipeds subequal, sexually dimorphic, palm usually longer than fingers in adults, with patch of setae on inner surface. Walking legs robust, moderately flat, walking legs 2 and 3 normally longer than others. Abdomen of males and females with seven freely moving somites.
