Family Majidae Samouelle, 1819 (Spider Crabs, Decorator Crabs)

Atlas of Crabs of the Persian Gulf

Abstract

Carapace subquadrate, subcircular to pyriform. Rostrum usually with two spines. Orbits complete with supraorbital eave and postorbital spine, but not closed; eyestalks long, movable in orbits. Antennules folded longitudinally. Antennae with elongated basal antennal segment, usually produced on anterolateral angle. Third maxillipeds with merus as broad as ischium. Abdomen of males and females with seven free-moving somites. G1 usually slender, straight, apically simple, without special apparatus; G2 shorter than G1. Genital opening of males coxal. Genital opening of females sternal.
