Abstract
In Behavior Economics and Treatment Engagement authors Andrade and Petry provide an expert analysis of the application of contingency management (CM) programs to promotion of health behavior. First, the historical background of incentive-based interventions in the context of substance abuse treatment is reviewed. The reader will then learn to apply CM to engagement to quality health care initiatives, such as vaccinations, medical screenings, diabetes monitoring, physical activity, and weight loss programs. The fundamental concepts and elements of effective incentive-based interventions are explicated and dissemination of these programs is discussed.
