Abstract
Upper endoscopy is frequently performed in the evaluation of esophageal, gastric, and small bowel conditions. Quality in health care continues to receive increasing attention by healthcare institutions, payors, and regulatory agencies. This chapter discusses quality indicators that have been identified by the various GI societies in the USA (the ASGE, ACG, and AGA) and presents them in the time frames that have been suggested by the ASGE/ACG Task force: pre-procedural quality indicators, intra-procedural quality indicators, and post-procedural quality indicators.
