Abstract

Since the reduction of large amount of skin for breast cancer mastectomy, the immediate breast reconstruction in one surgical step is becoming possible, allowing two surgical teams combining skin-sparing or nipple-sparing mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy or axillary lymph adenectomy plus immediate reconstruction with a definitive implant and contralateral mammaplasty if necessary to get optimal cosmetic results. Direct-to-implant reconstruction reduces the women’s sensation of mutilation, reduces the number of operations, reduces the cost of the breast cancer surgical treatment, and maintains good cosmetic results. This type of procedure should be performed by a double team with good experience in order to reduce the complication rates to a minimal level.
