Abstract

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a relatively rare cause of stroke that may result from trauma, coagulopathy, infection or a host of other precipitating factors. The sequelae of CVT includes venous infarct, brain edema, hemorrhage, and seizures. Multi-modal imaging plays a key role in diagnosis. Symptom management, anticoagulation, and, occasionally, thrombectomy or thrombolysis are mainstays of therapy. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to good recovery, which is possible in the majority of patients.
