Abstract

Pharmacotherapy is a central component in the management of neurocritically ill patients. In this chapter, we review key pharmacokinetic principles that dictate appropriate drug selection, dosing, and subsequent monitoring. We identify commonly used intrathecal and intraventricular antimicrobial therapy. We describe frequently used drug therapies in this setting including comparisons for antiepileptic drug therapies, analgesic, and sedative agents as well as common etiologies and management of hemodynamic instability.
