Abstract
In recent years, knowledge management has attracted the attention of the software engineering community. The ability of a software development organization to manage the knowledge that resides in its employees provides it the opportunity to improve its productivity, up to the point of obtaining a sustainable competitive advantage over other organizations. However, achieving a successful implementation of a knowledge management initiative is not trivial. Sometimes when a knowledge management initiative is addressed in a software engineering organization the main error that is committed is to focus most of the efforts in defining a technological solution ignoring human aspects of great importance as talent. This paper proposes a framework intended to allow software engineering organizations to develop and implement knowledge and talent management strategies in a comprehensive and systematic way in order to help these organizations to achieve their business goals. The framework proposed by authors is illustrated using a real case study where it was used in a software development organization to improve work-teams’ productivity.
