Surface Mining Machines

Abstract

Failures are common in surface mining machines. The consequences can be minor damage of elements, machine breakdown or serious disaster. Damage is caused by operation, maintenance or design factors; however, in most cases the reason is not obvious. Due to this, in cases of failures, appropriate procedures must be introduced. Following failure, its influence on the structure of the machine is assessed and the proper repair procedure is developed. In this chapter, the general failure analysis procedure is presented and, additionally, detailed case studies are presented.
