Abstract
The orbit is a socket in the skull that contains the globe and other appendages. The orbit also shares a very close anatomical relationship with many vital structures, including the brain, paranasal sinuses and cavernous sinus. The knowledge of the anatomy of the orbit is critical while assessing a patient with orbital trauma for optimal diagnosis and treatment. Trauma to the orbit can cause permanent damage to these important structures and result in long-term visual or cosmetic morbidity and in severe cases, can also cause mortality. A detailed history regarding the mechanism of trauma and assessment of extent of trauma using examination and adjunct radiography are essential in deciding on optimum treatment and timing of surgery when warranted.
