Abstract
The Family planning programme managers in the field and/or Population control professionals in the intermediate level very often uses some catchy phrases without sometimes understanding its proper meaning and implications. Such phrases belong to the discipline of demography and happen to be part of the lexicography of Population control subject area. Such concepts include Crude Birth Rate, Total Fertility Rate, Crude Death Rate, Infant Mortality Rate, Child Mortality Rate, Maternal Mortality Ratio, Maternal Mortality Rate, Still Birth, Sex Ratio at Birth, Sex Ratio, Growth Rate, Dependency Ratio, Stable Population, Couple Protection Rate, Effective Couple Protection Rate, Contraceptive Prevalence Rate, Birth Interval etc. The use of such concepts in a popular sense does not help in promoting intended outcome. On the contrary, it breeds confusion in the programme implementation area. Conceptual clarifications on data used in population Control area have been made in this chapter.
