Abstract
Unlike the compulsory birth planning system in China, India has opted out for the voluntary family planning in India. The status of achievement is bound to be different from a command system to a democratic format with laissez-faire approach. This is not all. The issue of population problems is seldom looked upon by the people of India at large as seriously and objectively as it deserves; it is the least monitored social concern in India. Just like varied perception of individuals, there are diverse stake holders from among economists, health professionals, social scientists, Women groups, religious leaders, political parties, etc. with plural opinions on to the enormity of the population problem in India. Such fractured social mind-set is not ideally conducive for family planning-friendly environment to bring out maximum possible outcome of the population control and the family planning initiatives in India.
