Drug Interactions with Hyperbaric Oxygenation

  • Chapter

Abstract

Interactions of HBO with other drugs should be recognized for prevention of adverse reactions as well as for enhancement of therapeutic effects. This chapter looks at oxygen as a drug and its interactions with commonly used drugs. Particular attention is paid to drugs affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Practical points of drug administration during HBO therapy are described. Drugs that enhance oxygen toxicity as well as those that protect against oxygen toxicity are also described.
