Abstract

Satellite-derived surface albedo products have offered great opportunities in monitoring surface energy budget. However, existing satellite albedo products may have suffered from data gaps and/or inconsistency caused by cloud contamination, sensor difference, and retrieval algorithm failure, which will lead to the limitations in long-term time series land surface albedo analysis. This chapter presents some recently developed methods to detect sensor change, to reduce data gaps, and to improve data consistency and accuracy of existing satellite products, followed by a case study on the temporal analysis of regional long-term land surface albedo changes.
