Riverside Telescope Makers Conference (RTMC)

It’s always fun to attend a local star party or a yearly telescope maker’s conference such as the popular Riverside Telescope Makers Conference (RTMC) founded by Clifford Holmes in 1969 and the Riverside Astronomical Society and is held each Memorial Day weekend at Camp Oakes in Big Bear City, California. The Texas Star Party is held in May/June and the Stellafane Telescope Makers Conference held yearly in August in Vermont. Amateur telescope makers and amateur astronomers from around the country always look forward to attending these yearly conferences to enjoy all the amateur-made telescopes, newest commercial trends, the popular swap meets, and the telescope merit award competition. There are scheduled talks held at these conferences, with subjects such as telescopes, optics, mirror grinding, astrophotography, CCD imaging, and, of course my favorite, topics about telescope making in general. There is also an invited guest speaker who is noted for their achievements in astronomical research in some interesting area of astronomy or even a discussion on planetary studies that will make for an informative talk for all those who attend the RTMC conference (Figs. 4.1 and 4.2).
