The Pathology of Cardiac Transplantation

Abstract

Over the past 15 years, the number of pediatric heart transplantations reported has been approximately 10 % of total heart transplantations. Pediatric heart transplantation differs from adult in various senses, especially in terms of epidemiology, management, and outcomes. The chapter focuses on some of these differences: primary disease leading to heart failure and heart transplantation, sensitization in the pediatric population, ABO-incompatible transplantation, endomyocardial biopsy management and interpretation in the pediatric population, and cardiac allograft vasculopathy.
