Abstract
Although stress is a potent trigger factor in atopic dermatitis, the experience of chronic atopic dermatitis can be profoundly stressful in itself. The Combined Approach is a psychodermatological programme for atopic dermatitis that brings together optimal topical treatment with habit reversal to successfully treat habitual scratching, the main cause of chronic atopic dermatitis. The easy-to-use programme is both cost-effective and stress-relieving, and can be considered for atopic dermatitis resistant to standard treatment before either phototherapy or systemic treatments.
