Abstract

The concept of “densification” has emerged in the last decade as a concept embodying aspects of sustainability, urban form, and quality of life. The concept to date has not been precisely defined as a model that can be shared globally.

    Greater Cairo region is composed of 3 governorates, namely, Cairo, Giza, and Qualiubeya.

    One Feddan equals 4200 m2  = 0.42 ha = 1.038 acres.

    The General organization for Physical Planning is affiliated to the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development, it has the mandate of the planification of all urban, and rural areas in Egypt.

    According to GOPP Egypt counts 223 cities, where 43.1 % of the population are concentrated. The strategic plans process started in 2006, and still ongoing.

  5. 5.

    Except for Old Maadi, which counts the least population density in Cairo, among districts built in the beginning of the twentieth century (GOPP 2009).
