Abstract

This is a short talk where concepts emerging from statistical physics, mainly from nonextensive statistical mechanics, are applied to problems concerning the distribution of energy in earthquakes and the interaction of ionizing radiation with living tissues. In the case of earthquakes, an expression for the distribution of seismic energy is obtained whereas the application to radiobiology gives interesting results concerning the survival probability of irradiated tissues.
